Wastewater Gardens®

A beautiful and natural wastewater
recycling system

Where can Wastewater Gardens be applied?

Their high biodiversity of plant composition, mosaic of oxygen and no oxygen zones and enormous surface area for treating sewage in the gravel bed enable Wastewater Gardens® to be very resistance to fluctuations in quantity and quality of sewage. In case of no inflow of sewage to the system, bacteria hibernate. Once new portions of sewage reaches the system, microorganisms are activated and adapted to new conditions. Larger then normal inputs of sewage can be treated thanks to the large surface area of the garden and its significant buffering properties. When better quality of outlet wastewater is needed, the surface area can be increased or sewage can be turn back to the system. The same can be done when quantity of sewage increases. Such properties of the Wastewater Gardens® system make it suitable for purifying different kinds of wastewater (from households, industry, agriculture, landfill leachates) as well as where outflow is irregular (such as occurs in hotels of all sizes, restaurants and bars, public buildings, etc. with peak and low seasons). It can be used for additional treatment of sewage leaving the conventional systems that do not meet environmental permits.
